Qualification types

Vocational Qualifications

Vocational qualifications are work-related qualifications designed for learners interested in a particular industry or role. They offer a mix of theory and practical learning, including an element of work experience or a work-related project.

Our range of vocational qualifications are globally recognised by employers and universities.

Non-Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)

Non-vocational qualifications are industry-related qualifications. Consisting of practical and work-related tasks, they will help you develop the skills and knowledge to perform effectively in your industry of choice.

Professional Courses

Level 4 and level 5 qualifications are usually completed on a part-time basis.

They can be particularly beneficial if you are looking for an industry-related accreditation or to progress in your current profession.

Course levels

Qualification have difficulty levels, with higher levels being more difficult. Some levels have entry requirements, which are listed in the qualification description.

Entry Level

Entry level courses give you access to Level 1 qualifications. If you have no GCSEs or other formal qualifications, this is typically your first step.

Level 1

Level 1 courses give you access to Level 2 qualifications and apprenticeships. They help you build your core skills and knowledge.

Level 2

Level 2 courses give you access to Level 3 qualifications and apprenticeships. Level 2 qualifications include GCSEs, vocational qualifications and apprenticeships.

Level 3

Level 3 courses are equivalent to A Levels and give you access to undergraduate courses at universities and higher apprenticeships.

Levels 4–7

Levels 4–7 courses are higher education qualifications.
